June 2000 Amsterdam, London, and Scotland |
| Our excellent adventure began in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We stayed five nights in Hotel Ambassade. We were in the second floor of this building and it was very nice and comfortable. We had three large windows overlooking the canal. Lizzy's sister was with us and stayed in another great room just down to the left. | |
|
We had a great view from our room and we watched all the boats go by on the canal. A huge soccer match was going on when we were in Amsterdam and Alice got in the spirit with a "Holland" hat. |

| We saw many of the exhibits at the Rijksmuseum. There is so much to see in there you could spend a whole day in just this building. | |
| I visited the Wester Cathedral and climbed up the tower to get a nice view of Amsterdam. This is a picture of the tower. Lizzy took this picture while I was going up the stairs inside. | ![]() |
| We flew to London for two days and while we were there we rode in the London Eye. It was built for the Millennium celebration, but was not completed in time. It was working when we rode it, but we heard that it stopped later the same day. We got some great views from the top. | ![]() |

| We took a train out of London and visited the city of Bath. There are some really interesting Roman baths which have been excavated and we took a tour of them. Also, we went to Stonehenge by bus and then on to Salisbury, England. | |

| Lizzy and I traveled with a group of great people from Kansas City. They were all friends of Mary and Gordon Briggs. Mary works at Intrav with Liz and we met them last year. Here is a picture of our group in front of the headquarters of Newcastle Brewery. Gordon is a sales rep for them. | |

| We toured Scotland by bus and visited Inverness, Stirling, Loch Loman, Loch Ness, St. Andrews, and many other places. We spent one night in Drymen and we found the oldest licensed pub in Scotland. Here I am as I head in to "The Clachan" pub. | ![]() |
| Our last two nights in Scotland were in Edinburgh where we toured the castle which sits high above the city on a volcanic rock. It was very cold and windy when we took these pictures. | |

| On our last night we went to our favorite pub in Scotland. It is the Tyneside Tavern in Haddington. This is the place Gordon spent his younger years and the place we surprised his friend Paul on the night before his wedding. | |
